Jukebox 5.1 is practical enough to sell? Or is there a way can?

Ambient

The hype of Huger 5.1 surround sound and seems to be more active than ever … except for sales.

Back in the early days of Dolby Digital and DTS, I rose to leave the music in a multi-channel format. I still can not.

The only thing is that I wanted to keep the "Dolby Digital" or "DTS" 5.1 or 6.1, or what approach does not make much sense to me, speaking in business terms, because of the convenience that it offers not force you while listening . RememberYou can let the music room and listen from the kitchen.

Yes, I think that most people only through the trouble to buy music "DVD" only by the imagination of sitting in the bank, but will not play, explore all the activities in 5.1 surround. I speak for myself, with many high-definition surround sound titles, I * only * listen to in the previous scenario, so rarely mentioned.

What I think the way then?

Stereo still rules

NoRegardless of how many DVD players get a lower price, and compression algorithms of channel data, What is that … The main thing is still the music, the things you whistle on the tip of the toes get out goose bumps.

The fact is that now the people as a good home theater systems for the case to get what the music is involved, things will probably only at a very common standard audio CD in there, or SDCards or whatever.

Overwhelming surround effectwatch a movie or a game, not listening to music, some just "skin" for the neighbors to leave the room after a very high volume, or dance away from the speakers, and I mean nothing – not good for sentiment overwhelming effects of his 5.1 music producer wanted to give you, which means that if you're in the geometric center of all 5 or 6 or 7 (for now) the speakers …

… Oh, and I said that in many cases, the speakers are wrongpositioned?

Coding

So for me the solution for those who invest in music production sound, is still with the stereo as a carrot, and … add any value unless it is necessary to surround. Although there are lots of ways to do this, I use two (remember to go to high definition content, I'm using MLP and WMA Lossless):

– Windows Media Audio multi-channel encoder (or similar) – Dolby Prologic or similar

Stick to the examples, Windows Media Audio offersdifferent channels of sound, but stereo down-mixed transparent, if you're listening to a stereo encoder. Dolby Pro Logic II for which the codes version 5 (.1) matrix in a stereo file, if IIx, goes up to 7.1, and even if the listener can enjoy it in stereo (with a little 'hype of the iPod, for example, and headphones), which can also, if the vote, stuff the source in Hi-Fi, turn right at the ProLogic decoder and get the full 5 (.1) stereo channels or more.

There are fewloss of quality for the coding phase of a stereo file to create additional surround channels, but for the above reasons, some of the kitchen table scene, what difference will not make a big difference.

Note: The ".1" in all these cases, the sub-bass channel is automatically processed, thus removing the bark from all channels, not a dedicated channel to ProLogic, but it may be Windows Media Audio.

Talking about 5-channel surround sound;problem with Windows Media Encoder Surround (and similar drugs) is that, since the entire channel encoding, the file size is about, for example, for the sake of argument, rather than being a simple stereo (Prologic encoded stereo) – not a good bandwidth (especially in high-quality, high bitrate versions).

On the other hand, if you have a stereo Pro Logic II encoded file size will be a simple stereo-normal size, so around a few times lower than expected compression modetricks with all the channels are there. Good bandwidth, the better for high bitrate encoding, without fear of his greatness and you can listen to an iPod or at home with your pride and joy of home-theater system in full 5.1, download a simple, small, stereo ingeniously simple.

So ago, ProLogic are too good to shoot straight to a normal stereo CD …

My vote

Yes, you might think now, my vote goes to ordinary stereo Pro Logic encoded dataand this is probably my future development, if not normal stereo – which solution would be equal to zero, the first vote, but I want to add value, and multi-channel ago.

On the other hand, I respect and defend the HD channel (24bit/96kHz) should be 5.1 in the heart, must be developed so that the highest grades, but only for the material side sold to the actual quality standard – I do not I am a supporter of compressed high-definition, multichannel download, I want itall linear, or more than 75% of them (WMA Q75 off, corresponding to the quality MiniDisc). :-)

Future

I think the future can now easily many of sweat, some insist on going through a good mix of 5.1 (very good actually designed to provide). The fact is that the DSP (Digital Signal Processing), as a large amount of computing power that it will take any audio signal, and do whatever they want with their effects.

Thus, from a crappy mono input, you may end12.2 with a glorious surround sound artificial, but a realistic environment, and move through in real time, as with most games today. So my motto is to focus on music, balance, production, emotion, and stereo, with optional distributed to a well mixed 5.1 (it's actually the opposite, but who cares) for reasons marketing and personal enjoyment, all this reasoning, mono is not sufficient.
